It is thought that the food produced these days is not as high enough in nutritional content to keep our bodies at optimum health. For example to get 1000mg (1 gramme) of Vitamin C it would be necessary to eat about 30 oranges. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and has been extremely helpful in supporting the immune system but eating 30 oranges would possibly cause a digestive upset and therefore it would be more sensible to take a vitamin C supplement. It is the same with most foods vis a vis vitamin dosage.
